Award-winning naturalist and heritage guide with 20 years exploring Ontario's most storied landscapes — from the Muskoka lakes to the ROM's deep-time galleries.

Read Marcus's story

I grew up spending summers at a family cottage on Lake Muskoka, listening to my grandfather's stories about the Ojibwe canoe routes and the Gilded Age families who built the grand boathouses. After a decade as a park ranger and a graduate degree in heritage tourism, I founded Ontario Signature Experiences to share those stories with people who want more than a selfie — they want to feel the place.

The best moment on any tour is when someone stops walking and just listens.

About this experience

Step onto the ancient glacial shoreline of Lake Muskoka and let the landscape tell its own story. Your guide Marcus leads a curated 2.5-hour walk through Gravenhurst's historic Muskoka Wharf district and along privately accessed lake paths normally closed to visitors. You'll stand beside boathouses that once sheltered mahogany launches of Gilded Age magnates, hear about the Ojibwe stewardship of these waterways for thousands of years, and learn to read the bedrock like a geologist. **What's included:** Expert heritage guide, complimentary Muskoka spring water, printed heritage map. **Optional upgrade:** Guided cedar-strip canoe paddle at the mid-point dock.

Marcus is a phenomenal guide — equal parts historian, naturalist, and storyteller. My kids (including the sceptical 11-year-old) were riveted the entire time. Worth every cent and then some.

Absolutely breathtaking. Marcus knows every stone and story along this shoreline. I've been to Muskoka a dozen times but saw it completely differently today. The private dock access was extraordinary — nowhere else offers this.
